A French Louis XV cherry buffet à deux-corps, circa 1750, with original hardware. The bonnet top surmounts two upper doors with carved panels decorated with C-scroll motifs — the scrolled form being the fundamental unit of Rococo ornament, here deployed with consistent repetition across the façade to create a harmonious decorative rhythm. The lower section, deeper in proportion, presents two drawers above two doors carrying the same scrolled vocabulary. The original hardware survives throughout, adding to the Rococo character. Scrolled feet support the base; a scalloped skirt is punctuated at centre with a larger C-scroll motif that anchors the composition visually. Cherry was the premier timber of French provincial Louis XV cabinetmaking — its warm reddish-amber tone deepening over centuries to the rich patina visible here, inseparable from the character of the piece. 63"W × 26"D × 103"H.
