A French Louis XV buffet de chasse from the Château de Rosière, Isère Department, eighteenth century. The buffet de chasse — a form designed for the preparation and storage of game following the hunt — was a standard appointment of the French provincial château. This example is from the Lyon School (École Lyonnaise), a tradition of regional cabinetmaking noted for the quality and confidence of its carved ornament. A grey marble top surmounts a two-door façade, each door adorned with carved foliage and molded frames; the interiors reveal shelves and concealed drawers. A carved skirt completes the base. The documented Château de Rosière provenance adds to the piece's historical significance. The walnut patina is consistent with age and use. 61.5"W × 28"D × 40.5"H.
