A French Louis XV-style wooden buffet, circa 1880. The rectangular planked top with rounded front corners sits above two doors topped by arched accents and a horizontal cartouche with carved foliage, the door panels framed by molded surrounds. The doors open to inner shelves. A carved apron with scrolling patterns and a central rosette completes the façade, the ornament worked in the spirit of the eighteenth-century Rococo originals from which this late-nineteenth-century piece takes its inspiration. The sides present recessed panels; the back is plainly planked. The piece is raised on cabriole legs at the front and straight legs at the rear — a configuration faithful to the Louis XV prototype. A well-detailed provincial revival piece with genuine rustic character. 56.75"W × 21.75"D × 44.5"H.
