Born in France during the Belle-Époque era in the later years of the 19th century, this vertical painting depicts a delicate bouquet of colorful pansies (pensées in French, translating as 'thoughts' in English). Depicted on a neutral background allowing their colors to stand out beautifully, the pansies are placed inside a rectangular, ivory colored ceramic vase. The pastel palette, made of pink, light blue, white and green tones, is perfectly complimented by the carved giltwood frame in which the painting is set. Signed upper left, this French, 1890s floral painting will enliven any wall beautifully, perhaps placed above a demilune console table or a chest-of-drawers.
