A pair of Louis XV period painted wood communication doors, Montpellier, France, 1760s. Characteristic of Southern French joinery production of the mid-eighteenth century, the doors present a molded paneled composition with the restrained Rococo sensibility typical of the Languedoc region. The painted surface — softened and patinated through centuries of use — is complemented by original iron hardware. Communication doors produced in Montpellier's workshops during the reign of Louis XV were prized for their refined proportion and regional character, distinct from Parisian production yet fully consonant with the period's decorative language. Suited to installation as functioning interior doors or display as architectural decorative objects. Offered as a pair.
