A 19th century French bureau plat in the Louis XVI style, executed in richly figured mahogany and mahogany veneer with a black leather writing surface finished in gilt tooling. The frieze holds four drawers, including a deep double drawer on the right fitted with its original compartment, each lock in working order with keys. Leather-lined pull-out slides at the sides extend the writing surface for larger work, and the tapered legs finish in brass sabots. At 52 inches wide, it is a true desk of presence, anchoring a study or library while remaining elegant from every angle, as a bureau plat should be. The leather shows light signs of use; wear is consistent with age.
