Italian Walnut Two-Door Armoire, Central Italy, 17th Century
An imposing Italian walnut armoire, 17th century, its architecture punctuated by pilasters with molded capitals beneath a strongly projecting cornice, characteristic of central Italian production. Each door carries two framed panels whose moldings are of notable quality and elegance, their profiles still recalling the stylistic vocabulary of the 16th century. The warm walnut has aged to a deep, even patina across the paneled facade, and the piece retains its tasseled key. Behind the doors, generous storage makes the armoire as useful as it is architectural: in an entrance hall, dining room, or bedroom, or adapted as a bar or linen press. A commanding, authentic piece with wear consistent with its considerable age.
