A Sienese chest of drawers, 17th century, veneered in walnut with ebonized moldings framing the three long drawers, the dark banding setting off the warm, deeply figured veneers in the manner characteristic of Tuscan Baroque case furniture. The top is laid with a parquetry of walnut panels within a molded edge, and the case rests on shaped bracket feet. The original patina has survived beautifully, giving the surfaces the depth and gravity that only three and a half centuries can produce. Substantial in presence, it anchors a bedroom, hall, or living room wall with real authority, offering generous storage behind an architecturally disciplined front. Wear is honestly consistent with its considerable age.
