A pair of period Gustavian chairs made in Lindome, Sweden's celebrated chairmaking district, in the late 18th century. The pair is distinguished by unusual decorative carving in the backs, a departure from the standard Lindome patterns that gives these chairs particular character and collector interest. They have been sympathetically repainted and newly covered in linen, presenting cleanly and ready for immediate use. Period Gustavian pairs are the workhorses of Swedish-inflected decorating, serving as bedroom chairs, flanking a chest, or supplementing dining seating, and examples with atypical backs stand out in a market full of standard models. Lindome attribution adds provenance that collectors recognize. The frames are sound, with wear consistent with age and use throughout.
