A stunning 19th century two-piece bookcase in original painted pine, its surface mellowed to a pale, softly scraped tone that lets the grain show through. The upper section opens through two glass-paned doors retaining their original glass, with height-adjustable shelves for books or display, beneath a boldly molded cornice. The lower case answers with paneled cupboard doors concealing deeper storage. Painted pine bookcases of this age and surface quality are increasingly difficult to find, and the light Scandinavian palette lets the piece anchor a room without heaviness, equally at home in a library, living room, kitchen, or dining room.
