Swedish Vitrine, circa 1800
A Swedish vitrine in black paint, circa 1800, a commanding display cabinet from the finest period of Swedish furniture making. The glazed upper doors, divided by slender glazing bars, turn collections, ceramics, glass, books, silver, into architecture, lit and visible yet protected, while the two-door cupboard base provides concealed storage below. A shaped cornice crowns the piece and turned feet ground it. The black painted surface gives the cabinet striking graphic presence, letting it anchor a dining room, living room, or library wall as few case pieces can. A statement piece that combines display, storage, and history in one silhouette. Wear is consistent with age.
