A charming pair of period Gustavian armchairs crafted in Lindome, Sweden, circa 1790. Known as “smiling chairs,” this distinctive design takes its name from the gracefully curved decorative details on the chair backs, which resemble a subtle smile.
The chairs retain the elegant proportions and restrained ornamentation characteristic of the Gustavian period. Repainted in a soft greyish-blue shade inspired by traditional Gustavian Grey, they feature a beautifully understated finish that complements their neoclassical design.
Both armchairs have been newly upholstered in linen, offering a fresh and timeless appearance while preserving their historic character. With their graceful silhouettes, delicate carved details, and classic Swedish craftsmanship, this exceptional pair brings authentic eighteenth-century charm to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
