Retour d'Egypte Cherrywood Commode with Sphinx Mounts, Italy, circa 1800
Retour D'Egypte chest of drawers of Italian origin made entirely of solid cherry wood. It has a linear and sober shape typical of the period, with three drawers, the first of which is smaller under the top and two large drawers below. Truncated pyramidal and lateral feet of the front enriched with ebonized wood pilasters with sphinx-shaped golden tablet applications. The sides of the chest of drawers are slightly set aside and the upper surface is all in solid wood, also in cherry.
