A pair of Emilian bedside tables from the Louis Philippe period, circa 1830 to 1848, in walnut veneered with walnut briar and with walnut interiors. Each nightstand presents a drawer above a paneled door, the richly figured briar fronts set beneath the deep cavetto molding that curves under each top, a signature detail of the period, and the pair rises on neat turned feet. The selected burl veneers and beautiful proportions mark these as pieces sought after in their own time, and true period pairs are far scarcer than singles: identical enclosed storage either side of a bed, or a matched pair of end tables in a sitting room. Both are sound, with wear consistent with age and use.
