An Italian painted buffet, seventeenth century. The piece retains a heavily distressed painted surface in a muted golden yellow — the original finish now worn through in places to reveal earlier paint layers and bare wood beneath, the dark-painted top providing a strong tonal contrast. A worn grey-brown overpatina has built up across the surface through centuries of use, giving the piece the encrusted, layered character that is the hallmark of genuinely aged Italian painted furniture and cannot be replicated. The doors are carved with diamond-point motifs, a signature of Italian Baroque decorative carving. The doors open to inner shelves. The piece rests on low, discreet feet. A rare and atmospheric example of seventeenth-century Italian provincial painted case furniture, with a surface patina of exceptional depth and authenticity. 61.4"W × 22"D × 41.75"H.
