An Italian painted sideboard from Umbria, eighteenth century. The walnut top retains a warm, richly developed original patina that contrasts beautifully with the painted body below, finished in a serene light blue with white fillet detailing — a color combination characteristic of Central Italian painted furniture of the period, where cool blue-grey tones were favored for domestic interiors. Two drawers above two paneled doors retain their original walnut knobs and the original lock and key, which remain intact and functional. The shaped back follows the gentle curve of the body, a refinement rarely found in purely utilitarian pieces and indicative of a skilled regional workshop. The interior provides a full-length shelf. The painted surface is softly distressed through natural wear, the patina entirely authentic. An exceptionally well-preserved and characterful example of eighteenth-century Umbrian provincial furniture. 69.625"W × 20.75"D × 41.5"H.
