An Italian Louis XVI period inlaid sideboard in walnut and mixed woods, late eighteenth century. The piece is distinguished by a repeated octagonal marquetry motif deployed across the front, sides, and top, framed with dark wood stringing and delicate banding — a geometric program characteristic of Italian Neoclassical inlaid furniture, where marquetry was used to create the measured, architecturally ordered surfaces the Louis XVI style demanded. The rectilinear structure is raised on finely tapered truncated pyramid feet, a detail that epitomizes the disciplined Neoclassical vocabulary. Two paneled doors open to a full-length interior shelf. The marquetry on the top mirrors the façade treatment, creating a unified decorative composition. The walnut ground and mixed-wood inlays have mellowed together to a harmonious patina with age. An elegant and accomplished example of late-eighteenth-century Italian cabinetmaking. 56.125"W × 37.25"H.
