A Swedish Gustavian period buffet, circa 1800, repainted in light grey. The two doors are decorated with reeded panels, and the corners of the case are similarly treated with reeding — a characteristic Neoclassical ornamental device in which parallel grooves create a fine vertical texture that animates flat surfaces with subtle play of light and shadow. The reeded corner posts lend the piece a slightly architectural quality consistent with the Gustavian translation of French and English Neoclassicism into a distinctly Swedish idiom. The light grey painted finish is a later repainting, the color falling within the tradition of Swedish interior palettes. The piece is well-proportioned and retains its original structural integrity. A clean and refined example of period Swedish Gustavian cabinetmaking. 47.8"W × 20.5"D × 39"H.
