A solid cherry coffee table made from a 19th century table, thoughtfully adapted to coffee table height in the 20th century, with a single drawer in the frieze. The cherry has mellowed over more than a century to the warm, reddish glow that makes fruitwood so beloved, and the generous top shows the rich grain and honest surface of genuine age. Antique coffee tables are something of a contradiction, since the form did not exist before the 20th century, which makes good conversions like this one the collector's answer: real period wood and patina at the height modern living rooms actually use.
