An early nineteenth-century French Norman buffet deux corps in natural solid oak. The two-part form presents four paneled doors — two above, two below — with the lower section raised on Louis XV-style cabriole legs above an undulating apron rail. The sides of the lower case are carved with lozenge panels, and the upper section is crowned by a richly carved cornice with strong architectural presence. The natural oak has mellowed to a warm honey tone with the deep patina characteristic of Norman provincial furniture. An example of the robust carving tradition associated with the Normandy region.
