An English composite stone garden figure with basket, late twentieth century. The figure follows a well-established tradition in English garden statuary — a standing female form bearing a basket, derived from classical and eighteenth-century prototypes and long popular as a garden focal point. Composite stone, cast from a mixture of natural aggregate and cement, was the standard medium for English garden figures from the mid-twentieth century onward, allowing quality sculptural forms to be produced at accessible scale for domestic gardens.
