French 19th Century Double-leaf Double-sided Walnut Communication Door
A nineteenth-century French walnut communication door of double-leaf, double-sided construction. The double-leaf format — two hinged leaves forming a single door opening — allowed for generous passage between adjoining rooms in formal French domestic interiors, while the double-sided finish ensured the door read with equal refinement from either room.
Walnut was the material of choice for high-quality French joinery of the period, valued for its density, grain character, and capacity to develop a deep, warm patina over time.
