A pair of nineteenth-century French Neoclassical zinc baluster urns with low-relief frieze decoration. Each urn presents a baluster form with large, gracefully curving handles and a classical frieze in low relief depicting male figures in antique attire — a composition drawn from the Greco-Roman tradition and characteristic of the French Neoclassical taste for archaeological ornament. The frieze imparts depth and movement to the smooth zinc surface. Removable liners are fitted within, confirming the original function as planters or decorative containers. Each urn rests on a circular base. The zinc has developed an attractive, time-worn patina. Offered as a pair.
