A pair of nineteenth-century French Neoclassical urns in pink veined marble with gilt bronze ormolu mounts. Each urn rests on a square gilt bronze base, the body flanked by bronze handles in the form of classical female masks framed by scrolling acanthus leaves. A beaded bronze band encircles the upper rim. The tapering marble pedestal base is banded with gilt bronze laurel wreaths and resolves on a stepped plinth. The combination of pink-veined marble and warm gilt bronze is characteristic of the finest French Neoclassical and Empire-period decorative objects — a palette associated with ateliers supplying the leading hôtels particuliers and imperial residences of the period. Offered as a pair.
