Made in France in the twentieth century, this Louis XVI style flat desk is constructed in mahogany, with two pull-out slides at the sides and a frieze fitted with three drawers, the central drawer with a lock. The neoclassical lines of the Louis XVI style are seen in the restrained form and tapering legs. The flat-desk format, with a clear working top, suits use in the centre of a room or against a wall, and the pull-out slides extend the surface when needed. Mahogany gives a warm, close-grained finish appropriate to a working desk. The three frieze drawers provide storage, with the central lock offering security. Suited to a study, office, or library, the desk combines a generous writing surface with practical storage. Its neoclassical character and clean lines allow it to work within both period interiors and plainer modern working rooms.
