A French Louis-Philippe two-part bookcase in walnut, nineteenth century. The upper section is fitted with three doors glazed with wavy blown glass panels — the irregularities of hand-blown glass producing the characteristic ripple and movement that distinguishes period glazing from its modern equivalent. Narrow vertical cartouches with acanthus-leaf terminals flank the doors in the manner of applied pilasters, providing classical articulation to the façade. The lower section is deeper in proportion, enclosed by three paneled wooden doors with molded surrounds, offering substantial closed storage. The walnut has developed a rich, darkened patina consistent with age. A well-conceived example of the Louis-Philippe cabinetmaking tradition, balancing display and storage in a format suited to a library, study, or formal living room. 65.75"W × 17.7"D × 75.6"H.
