Gustavian Style Black Painted Chest of Drawers with Greek Key Frieze, Late 20th Century
A Gustavian style chest of drawers in black paint, late 20th century. The case presents three graduated drawers, the top drawer carved with a continuous Greek key frieze that gives the front its strong architectural rhythm, each drawer fitted with round brass ring pulls on circular backplates. The dark painted surface has been softly worn at the edges so the piece reads with the depth of an older Swedish chest, and the case stands on compact turned feet. Chests of this scale are endlessly useful, serving a bedroom, hallway, or study with equal ease, and the graphic black surface settles into both classic and modern rooms. The drawers run properly and the chest stands sound, with wear consistent with use.
