Carlo Domenici (Livorno 1897 - Portoferraio 1981), Horses, oil on panel, signed lower right. Domenici is one of the major representatives of the Livorno group of the Labronici, founded in 1920 at Caffe Bardi, and shared with his Macchiaioli predecessors a deep love for the Tuscan land. After academic training he dedicated himself to Macchia painting: scenes of rural life in which naturalism and chromatic pleasure merge. Three corners of Tuscany dominate his landscapes: the Maremma, with peasants and animals at work in the fields, close in spirit to the great Fattori; Elba Island and its marine scenes, captured through vibrant tones and light; and his beloved Livorno. He settled permanently on Elba in 1970 and was appointed President of the Labronico Group in 1979, a position he held until his death. Wear consistent with age.
