An Italian walnut buffet, nineteenth century. The rectangular top sits above a three-drawer upper register — two larger drawers fitted with brass pulls flanking a smaller central drawer that locks with a key — above two molded-panel doors opening to inner shelves. The sides carry recessed panels divided into two sections; the back is plainly planked, as is typical. The piece is raised on four feet with carved ornament at the front. The walnut is of good quality, the grain of the panels providing natural decorative interest, and the surface has developed the deep, dark patina characteristic of well-aged Italian walnut furniture. A clean-lined and well-constructed example of nineteenth-century Italian provincial cabinetmaking. 59.75"W × 22.5"D × 43.5"H.
