Italian 19th Century Walnut Credenza with Diamond Motifs and Rounded Sides
An Italian walnut credenza, nineteenth century. The façade presents four drawers above four doors, the drawer fronts carved with diamond-point motifs that bring surface relief and tactile depth to the upper register. The rounded sides of the case each incorporate an additional drawer above a door, expanding storage capacity while softening the overall profile. Ogee bracket feet elevate the composition. The diamond-point ornament places this piece within a long Italian decorative tradition reaching back to the Renaissance, here interpreted in the more restrained manner of nineteenth-century provincial cabinetmaking. The walnut has developed a warm, even patina with age, the figured panels reading well across the broad façade. A handsome and practical credenza of generous proportion. 61"W × 20.9"D × 42.1"H.
