Italian Inlaid Walnut Round Center Table with Starburst Marquetry
An Italian round center table in walnut, its top a virtuoso field of marquetry: a radiating starburst at the center within a broad geometric border of contrasting woods, the whole framed in crossbanding. The top rests on a turned pedestal above three curved legs, keeping the base simple so the inlay commands attention. Tables of this kind descend from the celebrated Emilian marquetry tradition, and the pattern rewards close viewing as much as it decorates a room. Its scale suits a living room, an entrance where it greets arrivals with its best face up, or a corner that wants one exceptional object. The surface is in good order, with wear consistent with age.
