Italian Walnut Armchair in Louis XIV Style, Late 19th Century
An antique Italian armchair from the end of the nineteenth century, its design inspired by the Louis XIV period. The solid walnut frame carries a tall, comfortable backrest and a generous upholstered seat, both covered in warm tan leather, with gracefully scrolled arms and shaped legs joined by a carved stretcher, following the fashion of the historic period with flowing lines and no excessive decoration. Chairs of this presence are wonderfully versatile: drawn up to a desk, standing fireside in a library, or simply embellishing the corner of a room with a souvenir of Italian history. The frame is sound, the leather supple and comfortable, and wear is consistent with age and use throughout.
