Jean Corabœuf (1879-1947) Village Of Pannecé Pays De Loire. France.
A very pretty small painting, oil on cardboard, representing a village in the Loire region of France, by Jean Coraboeuf, signed lower right and dated 1929. Coraboeuf entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1891 as a pupil of Jean-Leon Gerome, won the Grand Prix de Rome in engraving in 1898, and entered the Villa Medici in Rome. The prize opened a career as a society portraitist, and personalities from political, intellectual, and entertainment circles sat for him, among them Aristide Briand and Edmond Rostand. Each summer he left Paris for his native Ancenis on the Loire, painting rural scenes such as this one. The Musee d'Orsay in Paris, the Napoleonic Museum in Rome, the Saint-Malo Museum, and the town hall of Ancenis all hold his works, and a street in Ancenis bears his name. Wear consistent with age.
