A large Italian walnut armoire, 17th century, its two doors composed of raised geometric panels within molded frames beneath a dentil-carved cornice. The facade's disciplined grid of panels, echoed on the sides, gives the piece the architectural gravity of the Italian Baroque at its most restrained, and the door retains its impressive original iron lock, a sculptural object in itself. Raised on shaped bracket feet, the armoire offers cavernous storage behind its doors, making it as practical as it is imposing: in an entrance hall, dining room, bedroom, or dressed as a bar or media cabinet. The walnut carries centuries of waxed patina, with wear honestly consistent with age.
