A Louis XVI bedside cabinet veneered in richly figured burl walnut, 18th century, retaining its original light marble top. The compact case holds a frieze drawer over a paneled door, each front framed in banding that sets off the swirling burl figure, and the whole rises on square tapered legs in the truncated pyramid form of the period. The combination of warm burl and cool pale marble is quietly luxurious, and the enclosed storage makes it far more useful than an open bedside table. Ideal beside a bed, a sofa, or in a powder room, it brings genuine 18th century refinement at an intimate scale. The marble is original; wear is consistent with age and use.
