A Lombard Louis XVI commode in walnut and marquetry, mid-18th century, its two long drawers centered by a geometric inlaid medallion, the fronts and top framed in contrasting banding. The clean rectangular case rises on square tapered legs, and the warm, well-figured walnut has mellowed over two and a half centuries to a glowing patina. Lombardy produced some of Italy's most refined neoclassical case furniture, and this commode shows the region's balance of discipline and warmth. With two deep drawers, it offers real storage in a bedroom, hallway, or living room while its inlay rewards a closer look. The drawers run properly, with wear consistent with age and use.
