An Italian Louis XVI walnut pedestal desk, 18th century, its kneehole flanked by banks of drawers raised on square tapered legs. The desk offers a generous top and drawers on both pedestals plus a center drawer, the full working arrangement, wrapped in the clean neoclassical lines and warm patinated walnut of the period. Eighteenth century pedestal desks are far scarcer than tables, and this one gives a study or library genuine period gravitas while remaining entirely practical for modern work. The back is finished, allowing it to float in a room. Drawers run properly throughout, the surface carries an even aged glow, and wear is consistent with age and two centuries of use.
