A splendid Italian side table, expertly made in the mid-19th century, entirely decorated with fine inlays of precious woods including walnut, olive, and rosewood. The floral marquetry spreads across the shaped top and continues down the sides, giving the little table a jewel-like richness, while the slightly curved legs recall the French furniture of the Napoleon III period whose style it follows. Light on its feet and modest in footprint, it is perfect for enriching a living room or reception room: beside an armchair or sofa, as a lamp table, or holding its own as a small decorative centerpiece. The inlaid surfaces are in good order, and the table stands sound, with wear consistent with age and use.
