Made in France in the twentieth century, this pair of Louis XVI style bedside tables is constructed in mahogany, each with two drawers at the front fitted with small knobs. The drawer fronts are decorated with brass, adding definition to the façade. The neoclassical lines of the Louis XVI style are seen in the restrained forms and tapering legs. Mahogany gives a warm, close-grained surface, and the brass-trimmed drawers provide both storage and decorative detail. As a matched pair, the tables suit placement either side of a bed, offering symmetry and storage in a bedroom, or use as occasional tables flanking seating in a reception room. The two-drawer configuration provides practical storage in a compact form, while the modest proportions allow the pair to fit comfortably in tighter spaces. Their neoclassical character allows them to work within both period and plainer modern interiors.
