Pair of Italian Neoclassical White Lacquered and Giltwood Consoles
A pair of Italian Neoclassical console tables in white lacquer with carved and gilded decoration in pure gold. Each frieze carries a continuous scrolling foliate motif in relief centered by a carved frieze element, with gilt rosettes at the corner blocks, above square tapered legs hung with carved pendant leaves. The pale lacquered ground makes the gilding read crisply, and the pair's architectural symmetry transforms a room: flanking a doorway or fireplace, facing each other in an entrance hall, or bracketing a large mirror. They offer real presence without visual weight. True pairs of Italian painted consoles of this quality are genuinely rare. Wear is consistent with age, with the decoration well preserved.
