Pair of Large Lombard Serpentine Walnut Consoles, 19th Century
A pair of large Lombard consoles in walnut and burr walnut, Italian, 19th century, their tops and cases shaped on the front and sides so the serpentine line moves through the whole silhouette. The figured burr veneers give the surfaces rich, cloudy depth, and the shaped legs joined by stretchers carry the generous tops with sturdy confidence. Important Italian consoles in true pairs are rare on the market, and their scale suits a significant entrance hall, a dining room, or either side of a wide doorway. Both consoles stand sound, with a warm old surface and wear consistent with age and use.
