A pair of Italian Louis XVI nightstands in walnut and marquetry, 18th century, each with two drawers whose fronts are framed in contrasting inlaid banding, the same crossbanded treatment continuing on the sides. Brass bail pulls and short tapered feet complete the neat, architectural composition. True period pairs of 18th century nightstands are far scarcer than singles, and the matched format is exactly what bedroom projects call for: identical storage either side of a bed, with the warmth and depth of genuine Georgian-era Italian craftsmanship. Beyond the bedroom they serve as end tables or lamp stands in a sitting room. Both are sound, with drawers running properly and wear consistent with age and use.
