This French walnut two-door buffet was born in the 1720s in Lyon, the capital of the Rhônes-Alpes region of France, during the Regence era that saw the transition of power between King Louis XIV and his great-grandson, King Louis XV. The buffet features a rectangular top with serpentine front sitting above two arched doors adorned with carved panels. These doors open to reveal a lovely opening following the arched silhouette of the doors, comprising two inner shelves. The upper rail is decorated with acanthus leaves on the sides that seem to be an introduction to the exquisite carving shown on the symmetrically organized pierced skirt. The ensemble is raised on scrolled feet in the front, straight in the back. The lovely walnut patina and pure elegance of the Regence lines make this French, 1720s Lyonnais buffet an excellent choice for any living, dining room or foyer, perhaps placed under a giltwood mirror.
