A French stone Provençale jardinière from the second half of the 19th century, with low-relief carved scenes and handles. Born in Provence at the end of the reign of France's last Emperor Napoleon III, this charming jardinière reflects the elegant influence of the Medici Vase. Its bell-shaped krater design features a prominent lip adorned with intricate waterleaf motifs, gracefully overhanging a body rich with well-worn low-relief carved scenes that tell a story of artistry and craftsmanship. Two sturdy handles provide both functionality and visual appeal, while the lower section is accented with gadroons that add depth. Resting on a square base with canted corners, its weathered appearance evokes the beauty of time spent outdoors under the Provençal sun. With its pleasing proportions and lovely patina, this French stone jardinière, circa 1870, will beautifully enliven any décor, particularly in a garden or on a patio.
