An exceptional set of four Swedish Gustavian chairs attributed to the celebrated Stockholm master Ephraim Stahl (1767–1820), one of the foremost cabinetmakers serving the Swedish royal court during the late Gustavian and neoclassical period. Each chair bears the ES stamp twice, an important mark of authenticity associated with Stahl’s workshop.
The design is unusually refined, with elegant upholstered barrel-form backs supported by fluted uprights and centered by delicately carved neoclassical ornaments. The carved seat rails and tapered, stop-fluted legs further reflect the disciplined symmetry and architectural grace that define the Gustavian style.
The frames have been beautifully repainted in a pale blue finish that enhances the carved detail, while the seats and backs are newly upholstered in linen, offering a soft contrast and a fresh, sophisticated presentation.
A rare and highly decorative set, these chairs embody the restrained luxury and royal pedigree associated with Ephraim Stahl’s work, making them ideal for a refined dining room, salon, or designer interior.
