Swedish Rococo commode, circa 1770, with a softly serpentine façade and restrained provincial carving. The original painted finish has worn to a muted chalky white, revealing warm undertones along the edges and drawer contours, consistent with age and use. Three drawers with shaped fronts retain their original brass pulls and escutcheons, each with a delicate asymmetry typical of the period.
The top follows the gentle curve of the case, its surface subtly timeworn, complementing the softened lines below. The apron is scalloped with light Rococo movement, terminating in short cabriole feet that maintain a grounded, balanced stance.
This piece reflects the Swedish interpretation of Rococo, where ornament is reduced and proportion takes precedence. The result is a commode that feels quiet, practical, and architectural, with emphasis on form, surface, and age rather than decoration.
