This rococo chair was made in Sweden around 1770 and has been scraped back to its original paint and newly upholstered in linen. The rococo style, with its curved lines and shaped frames, is expressed here in the Swedish manner, lighter and more restrained than its French models. Scraping the frames to the original paint preserves the early decorated surface, while the fresh linen upholstery leaves the chair serviceable. This treatment, common in Scandinavian period seating, keeps the historic painted finish visible while providing a neutral, practical seat cover. The chair suits use around a table, as occasional seating, or arranged in a reception room or bedroom. The aged paint gives a settled, layered surface valued by collectors, and the curved rococo forms read well in both period interiors and plainer modern settings where antique seating is wanted as an accent.
