A Swedish Gustavian painted two-part cabinet from Jämtland, circa 1820s. The large molded cornice surmounts two reeded upper doors — the reeded panel being among the most characteristic ornamental devices of the Gustavian style — which open to reveal an interior fitted with shelves including a spoon shelf, hidden drawers, and an open compartment; the interior retains its original paint. Half-columns with tall pedestals separate the door panels, lending the upper section a refined architectural quality. An open shelf divides the two parts; the lower section presents a long drawer above two further reeded doors. The piece rests on a short plinth with bracket feet. The exterior finish is a later addition while the interior paint is original. Jämtland, as a historically distinct region of Sweden, produced furniture with its own regional character within the broader Gustavian tradition. 47.5"W × 18.25"D × 86.75"H.
