A Swedish Gustavian buffet in original yellow paint, late eighteenth century. The warm ochre surface has been scraped back to its authentic finish, the paint layer worn through in places to reveal the history of the piece in the surface itself — a quality rare in Swedish painted furniture of this period, where original paint in this condition is increasingly sought. A single drawer sits above two paneled doors, each framed with diamond-shaped cartouches providing geometric ornament in the Neoclassical manner. The top has been later repainted in a soft blue, creating a two-tone presence that is characteristic of Swedish furniture that passed through multiple generations of domestic use. The piece rests on a shaped plinth base with cut-out detailing. Overall height to surround: 46.125"H. A collector-quality example of authentic late Gustavian painted furniture. 39.5"W × 19.75"D × 44"H.
