This Swedish painted bureau dates to the mid-19th century, circa 1840–1860, and presents a refined interpretation of traditional Scandinavian case furniture. Finished in a deep black surface with softly worn patina, the exterior retains strong architectural presence while revealing age through subtle tonal variation.
The upper section features a slant-front secretary with an original working lock and key. When opened, the interior reveals a pale blue painted workspace with twelve small drawers, one enclosed cabinet, and three open compartments, all fitted with brass knobs. The thoughtful interior layout reflects both practicality and decorative restraint typical of Swedish craftsmanship of the period.
Below, the bureau offers three large drawers, each framed with delicate molded detailing and retaining their original working locks. The rounded corners transition gracefully into sturdy legs, lending softness to the overall form.
Balanced, functional, and visually elegant, this bureau works equally well in a study, bedroom, or living space, offering authentic 19th-century character with strong decorative appeal.
